Of course, the other dude that stands to benefit from Jackson being shipped out is Smith. Given that he’s got a long-term contract, Smith might be handed the keys to the offense in Detroit, but again — either way — he’s in line for a boost in PT. Even as the backup, he’s developed some nice chemistry and at times has done a better job than Jackson of running the Piston attack. Smith has put up double-digit scoring efforts in four of the last five games despite getting over 21 minutes of action just once. That’s efficiency, people. So imagine what he’d do with a consistent 25 to 30 minutes.

The Wire Troll: Jason Richardson is Back

After not playing in the NBA for over two years due to injury, Richardson is back on the court and starting to look like his old self. In 11 games he has averaged 12 points, four boards and a steal while shooting 38 per cent from deep and 90 per cent from the line. J-Rich is sitting out Saturday for rest, so he isn’t all the way back. But when he plays he is worth something.

2012 London Olympics: Coach K’s Team Moves to 2-0

Davis in particular was a major sparkplug off the bench. This kid – who has yet to don an NBA uniform – is proving he can play with the best of them, putting together an incredibly efficient performance in just 14 minutes. He was perfect from the field (5-for-5) and the line (2-for-2), while chipping in with three boards, a steal and a block. Yup, this dude is going to be a serious force, so you better not overlook him on draft day.
