Utley has been in gradual decline for the past couple of years, yet he remains at the top of the heap for the keystone corner. His rising strikeout rate concerns me somewhat, yet Utley’s batting eye was never better. Another worry is his penchant for second-half swoons – is this a conditioning issue? – but Utley remains a top five Fantasy player for 2010.

In fact the combined body count from my initial tromp through this level was well above 300, which is pretty impressive considering it took me just north of an hour to complete (some quick math indicates that equates to roughly five enemies per minute). The constant pressure of these pseudo-zombies bearing down on you can wear thin after a while, though, as there’s not enough down time to create sufficient tension.

Fantasy playoff time is looming, with most leagues set to drop the flag on the second season in just a week or two. This year, the top first basemen tend to go fast and furious, and given that there’s tons of speed in this year’s draft (so that’s not being placed at a premium the way power is), if you want pop, this is your position. There’s great depth here, so if you don’t get one of the real big names, you can still get a high quality player who can help anchor your offense.
