Dear RotoRob: Grand-erson Theft Robbery

April 16, 2007 | by James Morris | Comments Comments Off on Dear RotoRob: Grand-erson Theft Robbery
Detroit Tigers centrefielder Curtis Granderson has had mixed results so far.
Is Curtis Granderson worth surrendering to get Ben Sheets?

Dear RotoRob,

I got an offer this week: Curtis Granderson for Ben Sheets. I was a little worried about Sheets’ injury-riddled career, but man when he is on he is lights out. I know his second game was a bit off from his first, but do you think I can make this trade? In our league you have to trade equal positions for equal positions. I would trade Granderson and Dave Bush for Sheets and Juan Pierre or Scott Podsednik. He also offered up Curt Schilling as well. I have Vernon Wells, Jeff Francoeur, Hideki Matsui, Garret Anderson, Rocco Baldelli and Mark DeRosa in the outfield. My pitchers are Brandon Webb, John Smoltz, Matt Cain, Scott Olsen and Bush. Should I make the trade or stand pat?

Thanks.

Daryl

Daryl,

I like the deal if you can get Sheets and Podsednik for Bush and Granderson. Granny has had a somewhat lukewarm start by hitting two homers and eight RBI, but only batting .250 during that stretch. As for Bush, well that depends on how he reacts in his next start. Sheets was pounded on Friday, but if you have an itchy trigger finger, I would take Pods and Sheets for Bush and Granderson. I think Bush could have a pretty good season, but Sheets could be better by far. And, I like Pods over Granny either way.

Dear RotoRob.com,

Kip Wells, Tim Wakefield and David Wells are all available on the FA wire if you think those would be worthwhile options in dropping Roger Clemens for?

Dan

Dan,

I think David Wells has the best shot of the three. I like him in Petco more than Kip “You’ve messed me over for years” Wells in St. Louis or Wakefield and his 50 mph knuckler. If Davey can go out there and not hurt his back, he is the best fifth SP in MLB. If he stays sober for the full season, I like him more than most.

I think I look at Henry Owens if you lack in saves, and Wells if you lack wins/Ks. Owens is the hot target right now since he just got the job. Maybe you take him and try and flip him in a trade? Maybe you do the same with Wells though.

Fantasy Notes: Juan Gone?

Even so, Guillen has suggested that Uribe may not get the job back immediately even when’s he ready. But a trip to the DL may be in the offing soon, so perhaps we’ll be spared that Ozzie-inspired drama for another couple of weeks.
