It sounds simple when these features are introduced one by one via small tutorials. There’s surprising depth and flexibility to this and with the ability to replay missions, you can literally spend hours capturing recruits, assigning them to new roles, and collecting new technology and weapons.

Although the game chooses to slowly introduce the various controls during the career mode, everything is so responsive and intuitive that it really isn’t necessary. After just a few games you’ll be pulling off back flips and waving to the crowd as you soar through the air. My lone quibble is that it feels a bit odd to switch from the throttle (R2) to the L1/R1 buttons to perform aerial stunts, but it’s something you’ll get used to as you play more.

Five weeks ago, after evening his record at 2-2 with a tidy eight-inning effort in Atlanta, Lopez actually looked like a somewhat decent Fantasy option, at least in an NL-only league or as a streaming possibility for H2H league owners. At that point, half of his eight starts had been quality in nature, and his 3.81 ERA was pretty impressive for a hurler with a career mark a full run above that and one that hadn’t had an effective season since 2004.
