Video Game Review: MLB 2k11

In the field, players’ defensive ratings mean more than ever in how they react to a ball in play. I definitely felt like I needed to be sharper this year and not rely on the computer as much, though the controls themselves are familiar. Base running can be a bit shaky, and stealing bases — a feat that was nearly impossible two years ago — may have gone too far in the other direction.

The Wire Troll: Jordan Walden Now the Man in Disneyland

The “super week” that many of us have been enduring is nearly over, which means those of us playing in weekly leagues can finally start tinkering with our rosters. Some of the greatest bargains and opportunities the 2011 campaign will present will be available over the next couple of weeks. The old adage of ‘you snooze, you lose’ has never been more accurate than it is at this time of the season for Fantasy baseball owners. The tough part is weeding through the overwhelming number of options and separating the trash from the treasures.

MLB Today: Conor Jackson Showing Signs of Life

At any rate, with the Jays starting southpaws in the opening and closing games of this series, Jackson got a pair of starts, and he responded with three hits, a walk and two RBI. If he continues to produce (and play defense – he made a sparkling catch to end a threat in the sixth), his playing time should increase, so he’s a name for AL-only league owners to put on their radar. Oakland is clearly desperate for an offensive spark, so keep an eye on this situation.

NHL Today: Rick DiPietro Looks Sharp For Once

The fact that the Isles went 15-9-5 in February and March was promising, but definitely a classic case of too little, too late. Now they’re sputtering to the finish line, having dropped both games in April with their final two games coming against the Penguins and Flyers this weekend. It’s quite conceivable the Isles will wrap up their schedule with a four-game losing skid.
