Any concerns owners had about how much playing time Murphy would get has been removed for perhaps the next two months thanks to the broken arm Hamilton suffered on Tuesday against the Tigers. Murphy is off to a solid start, posting a.321 BA with one homer, four RBI, and four thefts. Over the past three seasons, he has averaged 422 at-bats, 15 homers, 65 RBI, 10 steals, and a .277 BA. Outfield is not overly deep this season, so Murphy will offer solid value in all formats until at least the brittle Hamilton heals.

All of this is passable in a game that’s more about thinking than moving, but it’s still a pain to deal with.

At first, the control layout can be difficult to grasp, but the in-game tutorial does a good job teaching the necessary basics and commands. Arranging and deleting units are executed with the “X” button and circle, respectively. To end your turn you use the square button while calling reinforcements involves the triggers. As you progress, you have the option to cast hero spells with the triangle button. Although the game lacks the ability to configure the buttons, getting used to them shouldn’t require much time.

Surrealism has long been the realm of professional wrestling. In my years of watching I’ve seen acts committed that would land the perpetrator in a federal penitentiary in any other setting. Here, being trapped in your car and dropped from a crane equals a two-week absence. And yet, wrestling video games have rarely ventured into this cartoonish violence… until now.

One thing that is risk-free is Cabrera’s ability to carry your team. On Tuesday, he racked up his third straight multi-hit game, including a walk-off bases-loaded single in the ninth inning to give the Tigers a much-needed win. Yes, Cabrera’s latest DUI charge has yet to be resolved, but he’s picking up right where he left off last year when he was the runner up in the AL MVP race.

In the field, players’ defensive ratings mean more than ever in how they react to a ball in play. I definitely felt like I needed to be sharper this year and not rely on the computer as much, though the controls themselves are familiar. Base running can be a bit shaky, and stealing bases — a feat that was nearly impossible two years ago — may have gone too far in the other direction.
