2010 AFL Roundup: Eric Hosmer is Back

The first baseman started slowly in the AFL, then began to heat up last week, but has slipped this week (0-for-13 in the last three games). Still, even if Hosmer’s AFL numbers aren’t jumping off the page (.184 BA and 476 OPS), he’s still been productive, driving in ten runs in 11 games. And considering he’s played a ton of ball this season (he was with Team USA for the 2011 Pan Am Games qualifying tournament), you’ve got to cut the kid some slack. Hosmer has returned to top prospect status, and has put himself within a year or two of the bigs along with a very nice wave of talent the Royals have on the way that may finally help turn this team around.

NHL Today: Joel Ward Snaps Skid

He’s a bit of an enigma, as in each of the last two seasons, he’s seen an increase in ice time, yet his stats have slipped. What up with that? At least he had another minor penalty Saturday, running his season total to eight PMs after managing just 18 last season. Ward’s getting enough ice time to be useful, but at this point, we’d suggest waiting for him to string together some decent efforts before even considering him as a Fantasy option.

Dear RotoRob: They’re Dropping Like Flies

As for your choices, they’re all pretty marginal. Everyone is on the road against solid or better pass defenses. Under other circumstances, I’d take my chances with Kitna because of all the guys they have, but Green Bay shut that offense down with Romo at the helm last season, and the Packers are familiar with Kitna from his Motown days. Freeman played pretty well in Atlanta last year (250 passing yards, two TDs, no INTs) and is probably the safest selection.

Week Seven Notes: Roddy White is Unstoppable

Speaking of four, that’s the same number of consecutive games that Cutler has struggled. If he hadn’t had those big first two weeks, his numbers would be even worse than last year. But what’s really scary for Cutler owners is that he endured one of his lamest games of the season against the NFL’s worst pass defense in Washington. To make matters worse, Cutler also fumbled on first and goal from the one yard line. D’oh! And next week, he has to travel to Buffalo to face the Bills, owners of one of the best pass defenses in the league. As if going to Buffalo for any reason isn’t bad enough, imagine having to head there knowing you’re going to struggle to generate an air attack? Cutler is winding up on some waiver wires in shallow leagues, and it’s a trend that may gain more steam after Week Eight.
