The Wire Troll: Inglorious Antonio Bastardo Now Closing

Since Luebke moved into the rotation we’ve now seen two outstanding starts from him, culminating in Saturday’s performance (6 IP, 2 H, 7 K, W) against the Mariners. The 26-year-old southpaw was terrific working out of the pen prior to joining the rotation so his success in a starter role shouldn’t come as a total shock. The Wire Troll: Dustin Ackley Arrives in Em City

Ackley, the second overall pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, was recalled Friday and slugged his first homer Saturday against the Phillies. In 271 at-bats at Triple-A Tacoma, he slugged nine homers, drove in 35 runs, swiped seven bags, and hit for a .303 BA. What is even more impressive is that he drew 55 walks against 38 strikeouts. The kid can definitely hit so cough up some of that FAAB you’ve been saving and upgrade your middle-infield in all formats this weekend.

The Wire Troll: Dee Gordon Leads the Next Wave of Prospects

The former U of Miami standout has gotten off to a blazing start in Oakland, going 6-for-17 with three runs, a double, two triples, an RBI and a walk in his first five games. Weeks had a decent season at Double-A last year, but he took off in the AFL and has continued that tear with a major breakout year at Triple-A, batting .321 with 30 runs, 10 steals and a fantastic batting eye through 45 games. Grab him while you can in AL-only leagues, as Weeks may very well steal Ellis’ job for good.
