The Wire Troll: Holiday Homecomings

Dampier’s illness (apparently related to numbness in his arm, which sounds life-threatening scary, but his reaction was nonchalant — “I just had a little numbness in my arm,” he said) appears to be behind him, and the beefy centre is once again snaggin’ boards and swattin’ shots. He has averaged 9.4 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game in nine December starts, but is available in more than half of all Yahoo! leagues. Dampier is entrenched as the team’s starter, and is a worthy waiver wire pick-up if you’re in need of boards and blocks.

The Wire Troll: Freeze Frame?

As many hockey fans know, this weekend is the start of the Christmas Roster Freeze. Simply put, it means players cannot be moved (via the trade or waiver route) until after December 25. There are players that are probably sitting on your waiver wire and you are mulling whether or not to pluck them. Well, this is a very good question that many are pondering this time of year. Keep in mind that in the case of public leagues, you really (in most cases) do not know who you are playing. However, most times you do know your opponents or have an idea about their strategy. If the latter is the case, then follow this simple mantra: “Be quick or be dead.”

The Wire Troll: Many Happy Returns

With just a little over two weeks until Christmas, we figured it would be time to announce some returns that may be on your Fantasy waiver wire. Some are going to generate a considerable amount of controversy while others will just be good to have back. Imagine the Fantasy owner who has seven or eight guys on the IR and their joy to see one or even two guys coming back. The thrill of being able to get a full roster to go to war for you even for a night or two can be a bastion in a very long Fantasy season.
