The Wire Troll: Talk to Chuck

In five games since returning from a sprained ankle, the undersized Rocket centre has averaged 9.0 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 3.2 APG, 1.2 BPG and 1.2 SPG in 31.2 MPG while canning a ridiculous 61.8 per cent of his shots from the field. Okay, so Hayes has limited upside, but he’s been lauded for his stellar defensive play, so he will likely keep this job and continue to provide low-level Fantasy value for the remainder of the season.

The Wire Troll: An IR Full of Bodies is Bad

This week is more of a history lesson than anything else. Why the lesson first? That is simple, ladies and gentlemen. In order to progress, one must understand how it went wrong in the first place. Names can be protected for the sake of the innocent in these cases only. Imagine being the Fantasy GM with six guys out and only one IR slot. Worse, three of these guys are on that wonderful “can’t cut list” that everyone loves at the start of the season.

The Wire Troll: Better Late Than Never

Can you imagine how strange it is looking at the way this season has unfolded, Fantasy-wise? Think about it for one second when you get a chance. It is to be said that there are no easy solutions this time of year. Players are not exactly available and teams are definitely taking stock of what they have and need. So there is a direction to go, apparently.

The Wire Troll: Chase the Ace?

Kaman has not played since Dec. 5, and has made only two appearances since Nov. 9 – and a return does not seem imminent. That’s good news for Jordan, who has averaged 10.8 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.5 blocks over his past six outings. Those block numbers are deceptively low, however, as he has swatted a ridiculous 19 balls in his past three contests. If you need big-man stats, and don’t mind an occasional clunker, Jordan makes a great fill-in until Mountain Man Kaman is ready to return.

The Wire Troll: A Toast to 2011

First off, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. Sure, for some of us it has been a very tough start, Fantasy hockey-wise, but hey, there are still two to three months left, depending on the type of league you are in. It is often said this is the time of year to make a move because not everyone is paying attention. That has some merit as the time between the Winter Classic and All-Star game can catch some off guard a bit.

The Wire Troll: Hangover Edition

I’m also planning to join you all in watching college football – though I’ll only glance at the undercard until the Only Game That Really Matters is played next Monday. Great system this BCS thing, huh? Have you guys/computers ever considered taking the top four teams – as determined by your Precious Microchips – and matching them up (1 vs. 4, 2 vs. 3) in, say, the (insert corporate sponsor here) Rose Bowl and (insert corporate sponsor here) Sugar Bowl this year, then alternating the major bowls as “semi-final” matchups in each succeeding year? You add only one more game to the schedule, and three bowl games actually mean something instead of only one. I think NCAA football and synchronized swimming are the only sports without a playoff system, and I can say that this is one sports fan that’s college football fan-dom has gone right down the tubes since the idiotic BCS system came into force.
