The Wire Troll: Steve Downie Finally Healthy

Every night there seems to be a player going off the ice with some malady or another. Naturally, concussions have been the biggest injury du jour with over 85 players having one or multiple concussions this season. Very quietly, knee injuries have been a very close second with 83 players losing time because of a health woe of this nature. Combine these two and, well, that is a lot of time missed right there.

Wire Troll: One More From the Road

Gooden has been one of Fantasy’s biggest duds this season, but his lack of production has been due almost entirely to a bout with plantar fasciitis. He had missed 32 straight games before returning to the court March 28, but he was able to shake off the rust rather quickly. The veteran pulled down 11 rebounds and racked up 22 points in just his second game back — though it’s worth noting that his big line came against the woeful Raptors’ defense. If he can stay healthy, Gooden should be at least a modest source of points and boards the rest of the way, and he’s worth adding deeper Fantasy formats. The Wire Troll: Mark Recchi Ready to Turn it On?

Where does the blame fall? Fantasy owners definitely have a right to know why this is all happening. Simply put, I believe the many back-to-backs this season along with curious scheduling has created an environment for injuries. Also, players are just dropping like flies because they cannot quite stay in a rhythm. The body is like a temple and if anything disrupts that rhythm, then look out. Another key is that players cannot be at their healthiest 100 per cent of the time either. It is a very delicate balance.

The Wire Troll: March Madness Edition

The NBA season is nearing the top of the home stretch, and Fantasy owners — especially those in head-to-head leagues — are feverishly working the wire in hopes of landing that hidden gem that will carry them to championship glory. This time of year, it’s important to pay heed to the NBA standings, as there are several teams out there that are entering full “play the kids” mode. It’s those kids — and we feature one of them this week — that can turn the tide of fortune in your favour.
