2012 RotoRob MLB Draft Kit: Top 55 Prospects, Part VI

Last year, Taillon averaged over a strikeout per inning, but his record was pedestrian as the Pirates worked hard to limit his starts, so he rarely went deep enough into games to get a decision. His BABIP was a wee bit on the high side last year, so there’s a good chance his numbers were slightly inflated as a result. Taillon is a huge dude (6’6”, 225) for a kid that’s only 21, but his mechanics are solid – and better yet – repeatable. He can reach 98 mph with his fastball (with serious movement), but generally throws in the 94 to 96 mph range. Some think Taillon can be an ace, but if you bank on him being a stellar No. 2 and get more, call it gravy. Damn, I love gravy.

In Pomeranz’s first taste of the bigs last year, he showed good control and probably deserved better bottom line results. The 23-year-old southpaw flashed dominant strikeout rates at High-A and after just five starts at Double-A – split between two teams because of the trade from Cleveland to Colorado (part of the Ubaldo Jimenez deal), Pomeranz found himself in the majors. Now the Rockies’ top pitching prospect, he could top out as a No. 2 starter in the majors with a fastball that can reach 94 mph. He’s a huge-ass lefty (6’5”) with a body that screams ‘durability’ (231 pounds), so he should be an important part of the Rox rotation – both this season and going forward.

2012 RotoRob MLB Draft Kit: Top 55 Prospects, Part IV

He made his big league debut last year, looking absolutely superb in seven starts and 35 IP. Delgado actually improved his homer rate from Triple-A, and remains in competition for the fifth starter in Atlanta this season. He had a decent record in Double-A, but his strand rate at Triple-A was higher. Delgado has superb mound presence and features a low-90s fastball, a tremendous changeup, and a fine curveball. He could top out as a No. 2 starter in time.
