Video Game Review: Vengeance DLC

Snipers and assault rifle aficionados should be pleased by Cove — a map that despite a modest amount of square footage still manages to promote long-range fighting thanks to a clever layout. Of course, that limited amount of real estate means the run and gun crowd can excel, too, as paths snake throughout the enclosed island, allowing those in perpetual motion to get the drop on their opponents. The fighting tends to congregate on the beach area with players using the rocks and plane crash debris for cover before continuing to encircle the map.

Video Game Review: Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep

Beyond the story and Tina’s fantastic work as DM, the add-on is packed to the gills with content thanks to a lengthy main quest suitable to higher levels, loads of side missions and a nasty new raid boss. You should easily spend north of 10 hours digesting all the available content, though clearly that number will vary based on your level, equipment and whether or not you’re tackling it solo or co-operatively.

Video Game Review: NCAA Football ’14

Pre-canned tackle animations have been ditched in favour of the physics-based Infinity Engine 2, which ostensibly allows things like size, speed and momentum to factor into the outcome of every collision. It’s a nice change that makes plays feel more organic and keeps them fresh even as the hours with the game start to add up. Player movement and fluidity typically look smooth, though during the Road to Glory mode I noticed some odd, jagged cuts from CPU-controlled players with the ball.

Video Game Review: Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault

Combat and light platforming handle reasonably well, though the camera is pulled in behind you a bit too tightly, which can lead to issues when enemies surround you. Depth perception can also offer some problems with melee strikes and jumps. None of it is enough to seriously affect gameplay, but the option to pull the camera back would’ve been nice. On the plus side, aiming and strafing is fairly precise and easy to handle, and melee fighting consists of just mashing a single button.

Video Game Review: State of Decay

While melee combat is tight and simplistic, shooting lacks precision. Holding down the left trigger draws your gun and provides an over-the-shoulder view with a reticule to aim. It’s a traditional setup, however — in what was likely a decision to simulate inexperienced firearm users — it’s not easy to dispatch groups of zombies with bullets. Combine that with the tendency for gunfire to attract more enemies and I found myself using guns about once for every 25 melee encounters.
