Video Game Review: God of War III Remastered

God of War III picks up right where God of War II left off, which makes the package itself a bit of an odd choice by really limiting the target audience. After all, why would someone that didn’t play the first two entries jump in at this point? And if they did, they’re bound to be confused — the game doesn’t even bother to include a summary of events leading up to the opening scene when Kratos and the Titans are scaling Mount Olympus.

Blu-ray Review: Entourage: The Movie

The scene-stealing Piven was the best thing about the Entourage series, and not surprisingly he’s also the best thing about the film. He slips right back into the role of Gold, once again deftly blending manic intensity with sharp comebacks. While he’s probably too abrasive to carry his own show, Ari is employed in just the right doses here with plenty of vintage lines.

Video Game Review: Destiny: The Taken King

Headlining The Taken King is an all-new, lengthy campaign surrounding the arrival of Oryx, the father of Crota, who you previously eliminated, around the rings of Saturn. Oryx is out for revenge for the death of his son, and he boasts the unique ability to “take” over the will of sentient beings. This leads to the arrival of shadowy versions of previously seen enemies, albeit with some new tricks up their sleeve, such as quick teleportation and shooting balls of dark energy.

Video Game Review: Forza Motorsport 6

As nice as the surroundings look, the cars are the main attraction with photo-realistic representations of hundreds of makes and models. If we may dip into our Fury Road vocabulary, everything here is both shiny and chrome. If you don’t like the look of your car or the available dealer options, you can always customize the look yourself or browse other users’ uploaded creations.

Video Game Review: Zombi

Although the game’s roots on a less powerful console are clear from start to finish, Zombi at least does a good job in creating an unsettling atmosphere. There’s a graininess and something of a greenish hue to the many semi-lit areas you encounter, and limited sight is always a smart way to build anxiety. There’s ample blood and bursting body parts as well, helping to maintain the gore factor that the survival horror genre is known for.

Video Game Review: Madden NFL ’16

Let’s get right to it: the passing game has never been better in Madden. For years, quarterbacks have thrown bullet passes or lobs. This year EA has added three new types of options to choose from. There’s the touch pass (double tap) for dropping balls in between coverage, the high throw for exploiting a size mismatch and a low ball in which the receiver can shield off defenders — the latter is especially useful on short routes in traffic and curls.

Blu-ray Review: Mad Max: Fury Road

In an era when so much is left to computer graphics, Fury Road is a throwback with tons of amazing stunts. Almost as jaw dropping as the quality of stunts is the quantity, as the film starts with Max’s car doing a spectacular rollover crash and rarely takes its foot off the pedal. It’s intense, innovative and surprisingly diverse given what percentage of the action is vehicle based. There are too many to single out, but suffice to say it’s truly a spectacle.
