Video Game Review: Little Nightmares

Even without traditional narrative beats, the game proves compelling as it tosses various environmental puzzles at you, challenging you to overcome a mix of problem solving and evading capture from a series of grotesque creatures (humans?). While rather short, the game is fresh from beginning to end and some of the freakier moments are sure to linger with you after you’ve finished.

Blu-ray Review: Rings

It also feels forced. In The Ring, Watts has clear motivations and a skill set that fits the journey. Here, not so much. After Skye is killed — an event for which Julia is present and sees the aftermath of — Holt is fewer than 12 hours from his own horrific death. He insists Julia not watch lest she be marked and is so concerned about her and his own impending doom that he… goes to bed and leaves his laptop with the video easily accessible.

Blu-ray Review: xXx: Return of Xander Cage

There’s a light-hearted vibe to xXx, even when the theoretical stakes are incredibly high, and it feels surprisingly fresh at a time when so many action films take themselves so seriously — it’s also what makes the Guardians films so different. Diesel’s carefree shtick isn’t all that convincing, but he’s surrounded with people that seem to be having a good time in their roles.

Video Game Review: NBA Playgrounds

Like Jam, NBA Playgrounds is two-on-two arcade-style action. Rather than selecting a team, though, you’re free to choose any two players that you’ve unlocked. From there you’ll enter tournaments to face sets of two-man teams. These ascend in difficulty, concluding with a “boss” team that contains better players. Take them down and you’re on to the next one.
