2011 RotoRob MLB Draft Kit: Top 50 Prospects, Part I

This season, there are only 16 players that return from our 2010 rankings, mostly because a whopping 21 of last year’s Top 45 prospects have graduated to the bigs. Also attributing to the small number of returnees is a larger number of players than usual – eight in total – that dropped off the list this season. That means there are a whopping 34 newcomers to the list this season – by far the most ever (only partially explained by our increase from a top 45 to a top 50 list). So if you like newbies, you’ve come to the right place.

NBA Today: D.J. Augustin Shakes Off the Rust

Well, Augustin came out of the All-Star break with a serious statement game on Tuesday, canning 8-of-15 from the field (including two three-pointers) and 5-of-5 from the line for 23 points and eight assists in close to 36 minutes of action. It was great to see his shot falling, especially given his horrific shooting woes of late (14-of-49 in his previous half dozen games).

NBA Today: Raptors Look to End Road Woes

The 2010-11 season has pretty much been an endless struggle for the Toronto Raptors, so at this stage of the season – as we enter the unofficial second half — it’s really hard to describe any games as big for this lottery-bound club. Still, Tuesday’s game in Charlotte does hold significance for Toronto as it needs a win to avoid the dubious distinction of matching the franchise record of 11 straight road losses.

The Wire Troll: Buried in an Avalanche

So what can you do as an owner? Surely you saw the trades that the Colorado Avalanche made and immediately cringed horribly. Now, the Avs will try to tell you that these trades were absolutely necessary and, yes, this team has plunged worse than the New Jersey Devils did in the first few months, but there were a lot of things that went wrong with Colorado.

The Wire Troll: Melo-Drama at the Deadline

As the trade deadline approaches, Murphy is very likely to be headed out of Joisey to Parts Unknown. What is known is that no matter where he lands, he’ll see an increase in Fantasy value — mainly because he’s as close to the bottom of the Fantasy barrel as one can get at this point. Murphy has not played since January 7, and never looked like a good fit with the Nets. Keep in mind that this is the same guy that averaged a double-double each of the past two season for Indy — and is one of the few big men that will consistently give you better than one three-pointer per night. He figures to end up with a contending club, and should produce decent numbers down the stretch — though he won’t approach his 2008-09 level. Murph makes a fine speculative add if you need boards or threes, but keep the bait knife handy in case he doesn’t land in a favourable environment. And yes, the Troll will give his take via Twitter whenever Murphy packs his bags.
