Video Game Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

There’s a rhythm to the combat that takes time to develop, especially since most early fights can be won by spamming the two attack buttons. Once you start facing more and tougher foes it becomes necessary to mix up your basic strikes while monitoring your enemies, who won’t stand idly by while you beat their buddies to a pulp. As you get more comfortable and unlock additional moves, battles can turn into fluid encounters in which you’re seamlessly combining attack and defense.

Video Game Review: The Bureau: XCOM Declassified

Pressing one of the face buttons enables “Battle Focus,” which slows time to a near standstill and allows you to issue orders to your teammates and/or employ your own allotment of abilities. Both are done via a radial menu, which you navigate with the left stick. While this system is completely functional, it does have a pair of issues that are worth mentioning.

Video Game Review: Madden NFL 25

Running with the ball (whether on a handoff or after a completed pass) has gotten the yeoman’s share of the attention this year with the “Run Free” system and its accompanying precision modifier. This is activated by holding down the left trigger, slowing your ball carrier’s gait to ready him for a bevy of new, more advanced moves. The names are the same — dive, spin, stiff arm, etc. — but their execution and effectiveness when using the modifier have changed.

Video Game Review: Dishonored – The Brigmore Witches DLC

From a technical perspective, The Brigmore Witches only adds one gameplay tweak. Previously, bone charms were activated purely as bonus mechanisms, but The Brigmore Witches brings a different perspective to this by adding corrupted charms into the mix. These charms come with a price, so while they may give you one power benefit, they will negatively affect your stats and powers in another (for example, mana regeneration). It’s a small twist but effectively gives veteran Dishonored gamers something new to experiment with.
