Clearly, we sold this youngster a bit short, as overall this season he’s easily been a top 20 and could even be a starting shortstop in larger format leagues (16 teams or larger), although he’s currently playing like bench fodder.

Any concerns about his health are definitely a thing of the past. Case in point: last weekend, Nathan enjoyed a run of four saves in four days (ending Sunday), and showed no ill effects, tossing a perfect outing in his next appearance following that taxing stretch. It was the third time this season he worked at least three days in a row.

The Mets say that when Wheeler gets here, they’re going to go with the Fantasy value draining six-man staff a couple of times through the rotation. But come on. Let’s get real… that can’t last.

He sat Friday and Saturday and that seemed to awaken him somewhat as he singled, walked and scored Sunday and then homered and tripled, driving in two runs on Monday. It was Weeks’ first long ball since May 15 and just his fourth of the season after pounding at least 20 jacks in each of the last three seasons.

To say he’s been injury prone in recent years is an understatement, and Drew’s struggles in that regard have continued with a concussion in early March that kept him out of action for the first couple of weeks. He also missed this weekend’s action because of a back woe.
