Speaking of the playoffs, we’re just thrilled that MLB is finally discussing going from eight teams making the postseason to 10, a change that could happen as soon as next year. It’s a long-needed move that will help generate much more interest in the game and is a fan-friendly decision. So kudos to MLB. And that’s not something you’ll hear me say very often.

But the turnaround this season has been mindblowing as the D-Backs did the rare worst to first swing in the NL West, taking home the division crown with relative ease over last year’s World Series Champion San Francisco Giants. After back-to-back 90-loss seasons, the comeback kids won 94 games and wrapped up the NL West a couple of weeks ago — their first division title since 2007. And they just missed out on gaining home field advantage in the opening round.

Well, after a bad July (one homer, .681 OPS), a butt-ugly August (.149 BA), and a sluggish start this month, Young is finally turning it on. On Monday, he doubled, walked twice and scored twice, and over the past four games, he’s now gone 6-for-13 with six runs, four RBI, four doubles, four walks, a homer and a steal.

Of course, that could change Monday as the Phillies’ magic number to reach the playoffs for the fifth straight season is just two. A Philadelphia win in Houston combined with a Braves’ loss at home against Florida will wrap up a post-season berth for the Phillies.

While everyone focuses on the Phils, the BoSox, the Yanks and the Rangers, all Arizona does is keep winning. The Snakes won their ninth straight Wednesday – their longest winning streak since 2003 — and have now opened up a six-game cushion in the NL West. They’ve chalked up a team-record 12 straight wins at home and with just a month and change left in the season, a trip back to the playoffs for the first time since 2007 is looking very promising.
