Fantasy Notes: The Long-awaited Return of Chris Young

With four months of the schedule complete, Mo has not been scored on in half of those months, and he was barely touched in a third. At the age of 40, Rivera is not showing any cracks in his game and part of the reason for that is because the Yankees are being smart about his workload. He’s on pace to appear in just 61 games which would be his lowest since 2002, when he missed a good chunk of the season with injuries. Not only are opponents batting a mere .141 against him (his lowest BAA ever), but the dude is on track for the lowest WHIP and ERA of his absolutely brilliant career – a career that just seems to be getting better by the season. I think we’re all just running out of superlatives on this one…

Fantasy Notes: Sell High on Andy Pettitte?

Well, he’s still enjoying his finest season in years, but after getting roughed up by the Dodgers this week, a distinct trend has emerged. Pettitte went 3-0, 2.12 in April, 4-1, 2.87 in May and 2-1, 3.18 in June. Certainly there’s no immediate reason for his owners to panic – I mean, the dude has 11 quality starts in 15 tries — but it’s a situation worth noting for those thinking of selling high on the veteran hurler. Jonas Jerebko: Steal of the 2009 Draft?

The Swedish born power forward was inconsistent from a production standpoint, and his ceiling is likely limited, but he provided a great spark of energy and toughness for a listless Piston team and proved to be one of the true steals of the 2009 draft. I could see selecting Jerebko with a late-round flier, but don’t expect him to outperform his rookie effort by much, if any in 2010-11.

Random Notes for a Scorching Late-May Day

Still, taking over as General Manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning is a great opportunity for a man who is clearly ready to head up an NHL club. Sure, he could have stuck around for as long as it took until he got his opportunity to run the Wings, but imagine the pressure that would have been heaped upon the local hero if he was suddenly thrust into the top position in Detroit. And imagine if he had failed.
