The Wire Troll: Jon Jay Plays His Cards Right

Jay’s good friend Freese is starting to show the Angels what the Cardinals got glimpses of prior to trading him. Mr. October (2011) has turned it around after a very slow start, posting a .300 average in August with seven RBI. His season numbers are pedestrian (.259, six homers, 41 RBI), but when you consider he was hitting just .203 at the end of May, his stock is headed in the right direction.

2014 MLB Draft Grades: NL East

Anderson, committed to Southern Miss, is more of a defensive catcher at the moment, but could develop his power if he adds some bulk to his 6’3”, 180-pound frame. Twine is a rather intriguing prospect. He was considered one of the best Texas high school running quarterbacks, once rushing for 534 yards in a single game. Also a track star, Twine has premier speed and athleticism, and now needs to find a way to translate that into stardom on the baseball diamond.

The Wire Troll: Chase Anderson Opening Eyes in the Desert

You’re probably not paying much attention to the Astros these days, but that hasn’t stopped Castro from surging. The backstop is 8-for-26 (.308) in August with a homer and two RBI. For the year, the lefty-swinging Castro is posting a respectable 687 OPS with 11 dingers. Okay, so he’s struggled to duplicate his 2013 breakout, but he looks poised for a nice finish.
