The Mariners have completely dismantled their bullpen since the start of the season and one of the key moves was trading Strickland to the Nats. Since landing in Washington, he’s been lights out, with eight scoreless outings among his nine appearances. In fact, pretty much the only thing to have gone wrong so far is a weight room snafu that ended with Strickland busting his noggin. He had shown good control in his brief time with the Mariners, and has been virtually unhittable since joining the Nats. Seeking holds? Strickland can help.

Nova is as hot as any hurler right now, recording a 4-0 record and an ERA of 0.49 with a pair of complete games over his last five starts. Why didn’t any contender want him at the deadline? Strange stuff. At any rate, Nova’s gotten better and better as the season has progressed, and he’s been rather durable the past few years. Hell, he’s even shutting down top teams like Houston (two wins, three earned runs allowed in 16 IP). Pick up Nova and see if he keeps this rolling down the stretch.

Speaking of Jackson, he continues to show progress in his development, and if you believe what the Ravens are saying, he’s going to be the key to their new “revolutionary” offense. His passing mechanics are getting better, and while he still has a long road ahead, he’s heading in the right direction. Once the games count, expect to see a ton of run-pass option and read-option calls for Jackson, who will run wild. The key, however, remains his ability to improve as a pocket passer because teams will try to shut down his running game.

While he didn’t get much of a crack at saves in Toronto, moving to Washington should definitely help him rack up the holds. Hudson’s been quite consistent this season, steady other than a dominant June. He’s done a better job of keeping the ball in the yard, and is enjoying his finest ERA since becoming a reliever. Hudson’s velocity has also bounced back, matching his career best set in 2015.
