Scherzer has been a completely different pitcher since heading west. While he was having a tremendous comeback season for the Nats, he’s been downright transcendental since donning Dodger blue, consolidated his claim on another Cy Young award. Before getting rocked by the Padres on Wednesday, in 10 starts since the deal, Mad Max was a perfect 7-0 with a microscopic 1.43 ERA and otherworldly 0.71 WHIP. Oh, and there’s the 85 Ks in 63 IP — against just eight walks. Wow, talk about nailing a deal.

The Seattle Mariners have taken a massive leap forward this season, and continue to play well enough down the stretch that they’ve now tied the Toronto Blue Jays in the playoff chase. Without a doubt, 2021 has been an unqualified success.

That’s some impressive opposition to look good against, so consider giving him a chance down the stretch. Woodford has managed to reduce his medium-hit contact while raising his soft-hit contact, so he’s clearly made strides since his debut last season. It’s been a slow rise up the system for the 24-year-old righty, but remember that this dude was a first round supplemental pick (39th overall) back in 2015.
