USC Sweeps Weekend Tourney
Many discounted the University of Southern California’s excellent 12-1 start because it was mostly built by beating up weak sisters. The true test would occur on the weekend when the 25th-ranked Trojans had to face No. 7 TCU, No. 1 Vanderbilt and No. 6 UCLA in the Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic.

Trojans Face Stiff Test at Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic
The Sophomore was a two-way player last summer in the Alaska League, but has only pitched for the Trojans so far this year. Last year as a walk-on at USC, he spent time as an infielder and as a pitcher. Paschke scored four runs and hit .250 in limited at-bats as a true freshman. On the mound, he worked almost exclusively out of the pen, making just one start. Paschke dealt with some control issues (14 walks in 28 IP), something he continues to struggle with this season.

Kyle Davis Racking Up Saves for USC
His ERA is a bit higher this year (2.84), but he’s whiffed 10 batters and given up just four hits in 6 1/3 IP. Davis solidified his reputation in the summer when he was named the top reliever in the Cape Cod League.

Keep a close eye on Irving’s MRI results, because Dellavedova — who also double-doubled on Friday with five assists and two treys — could become a nice short-term option. Dellavedova scored seven points in the first quarter, but managed just seven for the rest of the game. Still, there was a reason this youngster was picked for the Rising Stars Challenge at the All-Star Game earlier this month.

It has now been a decade since the University of Southern California Trojans have made the NCAA Baseball Tournament. However, with the team winning its first seven games at home and then another two on the road to fuel a 9-0 start, there’s excitement building early on this season for the Trojans.
