Video Game Review: NHL Slapshot

For the skater, the Wii remote and nunchuck are both put into a hockey stick attachment, with the nunchuck up top and the remote at the bottom. The nunchuck analog controls your skater, though you can leave this alone and let the computer control your skating. The stick is moved to simulate shooting — a quick flick for a wrist shot, a small wind-up for a slap shot. The “A” button passes the puck, and the “Z” button offers a speed burst. You can also use the stick to check by doing a cross-checking motion, which is obviously illegal in all levels of hockey. That’s right folks, EA Sports is teaching our youth to be dirty hockey players.

Video Game Review: Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse Episode 5

The gist of that — the controls are adequate for adventure gaming, but are clunky, and you’ll have to use the trigger buttons to cycle through possible interactive objects rather than trying to get Sam to face the right way. The big change is that Max’s Toys of Powers were destroyed at the end of Episode 4, so you won’t be going into the first-person perspective to enact psychic toy mayhem on anyone.

2010-11 RotoRob NHL Draft Kit: Centre Rankings

When you look at the list of centres available for Fantasy hockey, the depth is much stronger than the other forward positions. Any of the top five picks could push for the Art Ross based on luck and health; similarly, there’s plenty of argument to switch the No. 10 to No. 20 guys around. The best way to look at it is in groups of five, then draft based on individual needs: goals, special teams, shots, etc.

To that end, the focus here is on single-season performance with no regard for keeper leagues. Based on this criteria, the most important number to look at is starts, with wins and saves as other primary variables.

Video Game Review: Tales of Monkey Island

In adventure games, inventory items were made to be combined, and that was always easier done with mouse-based inventory management. Since this is a console experience, Tell Tale has managed the best that it could; one button opens up the inventory menu, then you highlight the item to be used. This goes into a sub-menu that allows it to be combined with another object in your inventory or in the active game. It sounds clunky, but there’s no real way around it. PC-style inventory management simply doesn’t work smoothly on a console environment, though Tell Tale has done its best to try to make it streamlined and accessible.
