The NFL draft has become an event unto itself, and what was once called the Annual Player Selection Meeting now plays out across the television sets of football-starved fans everywhere, introducing us to the players that could become the NFL’s Next Big Thing. Hyperbole flows like champagne as each player is accorded the full analytical breakdown, and Fantasy football owners salivate at the thought of drafting this beast of a man to carry their team’s fortunes in the upcoming season — which now can’t get here soon enough.

MLB Power Rankings: August 12

After a couple week’s absence of the Power Rankings we’re back, and the most surprising team is the Toronto Blue Jays with 59 wins, enough to be a contender in other divisions, but in baseball’s best division, the Jays sit 10 games back in the AL East, trailing the Yankees, Rays, and Red Sox. Another surprise is that the race for the NL Central between the Cardinals and the Reds is still so close. I expected the Cardinals to take a bigger lead after the All-Star break, but it seems as if the Reds deserve more credit than they were given as they are showing no signs of packing it in.

Video Game Review: Madden NFL ’11

After keeping basically the same layout for years, there are a handful of changes that long-time players will have to familiarize themselves with. The biggest change during plays is that true dual-stick control has been implemented as the right stick now controls things like leaning into or away from contact rather than canned trucking and juke animations. Turbo has also been removed (however, it can be turned back on in settings), and though it takes a little while to get used to, once you get the hang of it you’ll be creating more rewarding and organic looking runs than ever before.

Video Games: Protector Trials DLC

You begin with a finite amount of ammunition, health packs and EVE hypos, but each splicer kill nets you cash to spend on replenishing your supplies at vending machines. That makes the job of protecting your Little Sister and keeping yourself healthy and fully loaded a balancing act where you’re constantly trying to find an opening long enough to leave your Little Sister unprotected and restock.

Is Josh Tomlin for Real?

The Cleveland Indians continue to hold their own lately, and have suddenly pulled into fourth place in the AL Central, just 6.5 games behind the reeling Tigers. Okay, so they put themselves in too big a hole in the first half for this season to matter, but third place in the Central doesn’t seem so outlandish now, and that’s something to be excited about if you’re unfortunate enough to be a fan of the Tribe.
