2014 NHL Draft Grades: Central Division, Part II

A series of solid drafts has left Minnesota’s prospect pool in good shape, even with most of the cream of the crop already playing in St. Paul. A couple of playoff runs have forced the Wild to draft a little later than it’s become accustomed to (though that’s hardly a bad thing), but its scouting staff has still managed to get good results each year.

2014 NBA Draft Profile: Joel Embiid

Embiid’s shot blocking prowess will be a much-welcomed asset, especially when you consider that playing beside him will be Noels — another shot blocker, and that gives Philly a huge advantage on D. For the Sixers, we think this was the right pick — for other teams, maybe not so much. There is no reason to believe they will be any good this season, so the chances of deciding to rush him back are negligible. Embiid will most likely miss all 82 games.

Product Review: HyperX Cloud White Headphones

Ease of use and comfort are certainly important components of any headset, but they wouldn’t mean much if the audio quality didn’t deliver. Thankfully, the HyperX Cloud White has no such shortcomings with two 53mm drivers kicking out clear music and immersive gaming effects. The Wire Troll: Chase Anderson Opening Eyes in the Desert

You’re probably not paying much attention to the Astros these days, but that hasn’t stopped Castro from surging. The backstop is 8-for-26 (.308) in August with a homer and two RBI. For the year, the lefty-swinging Castro is posting a respectable 687 OPS with 11 dingers. Okay, so he’s struggled to duplicate his 2013 breakout, but he looks poised for a nice finish.

2014 NBA Draft Profile: Jabari Parker

It is interesting to see the different situations the two tops picks are in; top pick Wiggins is not even certain to have a starting gig and his name was in the media constantly tied to being dealt once his 30-day contractual clause is over (and sure enough, where there was smoke, there was fire in this situation). Second pick Parker, however, is being embraced as a top star that the team cannot wait to grow with. We’re not trying to say he will carry them to the championship — or even to many more wins than the league-worst 15 the Bucks managed last season. We just think the team, with the addition of Parker, is headed in a successful direction.
