By leaving so much unsaid and unexplained, it allows the audience to fill in the gaps (at least for the time being) and speculate on little nuggets here and there. The origins of the creatures is certainly at the top of the list, and the creature design crew deserves some props. There’s initially a “less is more” approach to showing it, but even when we do see it more clearly it maintains a real creepiness.

Seattle’s fifth rounder in 2011, Marlette has flashed fine power and extra-base hit capability in his career, but doesn’t have much speed. He’s been stuck at Double-A for quite a few years, but given how many total bases he’s racking up this year, maybe he’ll finally get a promotion to Triple-A.

Assuming that happens, Beckham is likely to take over as the everyday shortstop, and while that may not sound exciting, don’t forget about how good he was last year. His extra-base pop has been nearly non-existent this season, but since coming off the DL this week, he’s starting to show signs of life with three hits, including a double, over the last two games. Beckham is not an everyday player now, but could be a great stash as it’s likely his value could spike down the stretch. Just remember, this dude was the No. 1 overall pick in 2008 for a reason.

Stepping up to 4K UHD, Jack Reacher looks markedly improved over the Blu-ray version, bringing the city of Pittsburgh to life with cinema-quality visuals. We tend to think about effects-heavy fare gleaning the most benefit from upgrades like this, but scenes like the quarry shootout are proof positive just how effective the boost can be for movies like this.
