Matt Carpenter has returned to the majors with the New York Yankees.

The Wire Troll: Matt Carpenter Returns

This season, he’s seeing plenty of action at DH, OF and first base, and while his extra-base sock has dipped a bit (although it seems to have resurfaced this week), he’s upped his walk rate while racking up hits to the tune of a career-best .287 BA. And while he remains ice cold now, he had driven in runs in three straight before Friday, making him an intriguing buy-low, streaming or DFS option as he remains as asset in OBP leagues thanks to his superb strike zone judgment (he drew a pair of free passes Friday). Yes, his command has been spotty, but at least he’s delivering positive value and you know he’s capable of racking up the Ks when he’s on (26 per cent K rate since the start of 2021, putting him in the 82nd percentile). Quintana’s flyball rate is down a smidge, but that’s been negated by getting hit harder, so this is definitely a wild card. But if you need pitching help in an NL-only league, he could be worth a flier because of his strikeout potential.
