The 2021 NHL is pretty much in the books, except for the Vancouver Canucks wrapping up all that time they missed during their Covid shutdown. So that means it’s time to see how our Fantasy hockey waiver wire recommendations panned out this season.

This season, he’s been dealing with plenty of injury issues but just returned this week after missing over a month with an oblique woe. Carlo drilled three shots in his first game, and then a team-high five blasts on Thursday, scoring once and going +2. When he’s healthy, he’s a key part of a championship calibre team.

Oettinger has been taking advantage of the opportunity with some solid play — especially lately, with a .944 save percentage in April so far. His fine performances are helping him make a claim as the goalie of the future in Dallas and a worthy picking up as a second goalie for the remainder of the season.

However, thanks to injuries and trades, he suddenly finds himself as the last man left standing in the Buffalo crease, so if you’re super desperate for a starting goalie in a very deep league, this is your man. Tokarski has started back-to-back games for the Sabres, and he looked better on Thursday, so perhaps there’s hope. It’s been five years since he last played an NHL game before this run, so you’ve got to figure this is his final shot… so if nothing else, the incentive is there for him.

Raanta was perfect in relief after Kuemper got hurt Monday and then played brilliantly on Wednesday, keeping his team in a game that should have been a blowout loss. It’s been a rough start to the season for Raanta, but he has a glorious opportunity to right the ship now.

Necas has been quieter in the two games since that streak, but continues to get shots on net. Still, as long as Teravainen remains out (and you never know how long that will be with a concussion), Necas is a fine waiver wire add, and long-term makes for an interesting trade target.

Well, Covid put a quick end to his hot play, but this season he’s picked up right where he left off, recording four points in the last two games and nearly a point per game overall while proving a nice source of hits. Brown’s also racking up more PM this season, and while he’s playing on the top line and garnering plenty of PP time, he needs to be owned.
