Ed Davis has been racking up the boards for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The move paid immediate dividends as Birch — mostly known as a defensive specialist — came through with 14 points on Thursday. He followed that up with a near double-double on Friday, adding four steals and two blocks. Birch could stick as a starter for the time being, so expect his bucket count to rise while he provides help on the glass and pitches in with the occasional block or two. He’s definitely a better post player than he’s given credit for, and now he has a chance to prove it.

Nick Kovacevich played college basketball with a few different schools.

The small forward was a First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-Area selection in high school before playing five games as a freshman at San Jose State in 2005-06. Kovacevich spent his sophomore season at a junior college before moving to Division II ball with Southwest Baptist University, captaining the team as a junior and senior, when he led the squad to the Sweet 16.

The Wire Troll: Lonnie Walker IV Stepping up Again for Spurs

He had been virtually invisible the previous two games, so we’ll see what happens (24 points on Friday worked for us!), but given how much better he’s getting defensively, the minutes should be there down the stretch. Walker, the 18th overall pick in 2018, is worth watching because of his athleticism and scoring ability.
