Hunter Dozier looks like a late bloomer for the Kansas City Royals.

The Wire Troll: Hunter Dozier Demanding Attention in KC

The Snakes have struggled for years to find a consistent closer year in and year out. Could Lopez be the long-term solution? Currently, he’s providing nice value in holds leagues, and has tossed scoreless ball in nine of his 10 outings to begin the season. After looking real good in an eighth inning role late in 2018, Lopez has already matched the number of games he appeared in last season, and if he can control his overpowering heat, he definitely has the potential to close down the road. Patience will be required as he has very little experience above Double-A.

Scott Schreiber is off to a good start in the minors for the Houston Astros.

The Wire Troll: Another Young Astro Bat on the Horizon

Pinder is looking like a decent Fantasy option — especially in DFS play (against lefties) while his salary is low. He’s hit safely in five straight games, and the first four of those were all multi-hit efforts. Pinder is showing some impressive power, doubling in three straight and homering three times so far this season, helping making up for a lack of speed. He doesn’t walk, but he’s not striking out, either, and best of all, he’s finally showing he can hit righties a bit better (.269). Pinder may still be a utility player, bouncing around the field, but he’s getting lots of chances to start this year and the way he’s playing he could cement his role early on.

Sandy Alcantara could be the first ace for the Miami Marlins since Jose Fernandez.

The Wire Troll: Sandy Alcantara Surfacing as New Marlin Ace

Continuing our theme of young hurlers that really impressed in their first starts of the season, how about Fried? All he did was limit the Cubs to one measly hit over six innings while fanning five without a walk on Thursday. That outing earned Fried a repeat engagement in the Braves’ rotation, although given that it’ll be in Colorado, you may not want him active. He made a few starts for Atlanta last year, but mostly pitched out of the bullpen, and after a couple of relief outings to begin this season, he sure looked like he wanted to stick as a starter. If Fried can be anywhere near as phenomenal going forward, he could wind up being a real steal.

2019 RotoRob Top 90 Fantasy Baseball Prospects

This season, we’ve slipped to 41 returnees from our 2018 rankings (two fewer than last year), and the number of players graduating to the bigs from last year’s Top 85 prospects also dipped a tad (down two to 22). A whopping nine more prospects (22) fell off the list this year, suggesting that as we expand the list, the chances of swinging and missing increases.
