New York Yankees 2011 Season Review

Ho hum. The Yankees took the American League East for the 11th time in 14 seasons, but were unable to get back to the ALCS, suffering a five-game defeat to the Detroit Tigers in the ALDS. When they dropped that final game 3-2 at Yankee Stadium, it marked the first time the Yanks had suffered a one-run loss at home to knock them out of the playoffs since the 1926 World Series.

The Wire Troll: John Beck Making Progress in D.C.

Injuries have played a huge role in shaping the Fantasy football landscape this season, and this week the Washington Redskins took an especially hard hit, losing both their top runner and receiver to maladies that will sideline them for an extended period. The backfield situations in Arizona and Denver are also in flux, so opportunities for waiver-wire wizardry abound in these three locales. Elsewhere, many quality players may be sitting on your league wire as a result of being dropped for their bye weeks; be sure to have a close look and make that claim if you see a player that can help your Fantasy cause.

Video Game Review: The Missing Link DLC

While this DLC is mostly enjoyable, there are some shortcomings worth mentioning. For starters, limited ammo and Praxis kits mean more deaths, and by extension more time spent staring at the loading screen. Backtracking is also far more prevalent here than in the main game, which may be a turnoff for some. Lastly, it’s clear some graphical shortcuts were taken as animations loop during extended conversation scenes and lip synching doesn’t match. Even taken collectively, though, these complaints are pretty minor.

Product Review: NHL GameCenter App (PS3)

Let’s get to the biggest attraction in GameCenter — live streaming of every NHL game, in many cases with both home and away feeds. If you’ve used GameCenter on a web browser, you know the interface can be a little clunky at times. Fortunately, the PS3 version is actually fairly streamlined. After loading the app, you get a catalog selection of each of the day’s games, along with viewing options. You can view the home feed, away feed, a condensed version of the game (usually edited down to 10-to-15 minutes), or a highlight package. If you’re joining in during the game, you have the option to watch the game live or start from the beginning, and if it’s after the fact, all of the aforementioned viewing options are available. Note that the highlights and condensed versions do take some time to be made available.

Video Game Review: Crysis

Making the move from PC to console is often a difficult one when it comes to controls. It’s handled seamlessly here. Triggers and shoulder buttons handle aiming, firing and engaging your suit’s two primary modes (armour and stealth). Holding down one of the face buttons brings up a menu of all your available weapons, which are then easily selected with the left stick or d-pad. Cycling through fire modes and switching out attachments are well implemented as well.
