The Wire Troll: Jarrett Allen Joins Starting Five for Nets

Allen recently took over as the starting centre in Brooklyn, and has looked better each game since the move. Allen’s PT is up, his FG accuracy has been off the charts and each game his scoring has gone up, culminating in 20 points in just 24 minutes on Friday. The rookie will need to watch his turnovers, but looks poised for a big second half as he gets more acclimated to the NBA. You can already see the progress he’s making month to month, and at this stage, he’s nearly looking like a top 50 player. Allen isn’t huge for a centre, but makes up for it with a massive wingspan, great reach and a projectable frame.

Video Game Review: Wulverblade

While ultimately unnecessary, Darkwind’s decision to ground the game in actual history — real locations, weapons, etc. — is interesting. The setup of the levels is pretty standard as you’ll work your way through eight stages, typically consisting of a smattering of smallish encounters and a few all-out assaults leading up to a boss fight.

Blu-ray Review: Cloverfield/10 Cloverfield Lane 4K UHD

In the original Cloverfield an unknown monster emerges and lays siege to New York, all of which is filmed from a handheld camera — the idea being that the Department of Defence found it in the aftermath of the event. While it’s on the short list of best found-footage movies (alongside The Blair Witch Project and Chronicle) the nearly constant movement is tough to watch at times.

The Wire Troll: Anthony Beauvillier Helping Keep the Isles in the Hunt

Scandella hasn’t done much offensively lately (notwithstanding an assist on Thursday — the 75th of his eight-year career), but he plays a ton of minutes and given Bogosian’s season-ending injury, he’s guaranteed PT the rest of the way. Scandella has been disciplined lately, going without a penalty so far in January, but the veteran is still seeking his first power play goal of the season. He does the little things well, putting up a team-high three hits on Thursday, and has been seeing steady PP and PK time. Consider Scandella a nice deep league add.

Video Game Review: Batman: The Enemy Within – Episode 4

While Bane, Freeze and Gordon get some time here, they’re really pushed to the side as two primary conflicts unfold. Selina and Bruce navigate their feelings for each other while striking a balance between their differing moralities. John and Bruce hit a strange mentor/apprentice relationship as John tries to woo Harley but also understand what it means to do the right thing.

While Gerard Butler’s acting prowess probably tops out as “off-brand Nicolas Cage,” which is, of course, high praise, there’s an endearing level of cheesiness inherent in him playing a brilliant scientist that can also kick ass when necessary. Suffice to say it rates highly on the “so bad it’s good” scale.

The Wire Troll: T.J. McConnell Pointing Up in Philly

Hill has been maddening to own lately. He scored 20 or more points in two of the previous four games, then took a DNP-CD on Friday. Really?!? However, the Kings are rumoured to be interested in peddling Hill, with Cleveland mentioned as a possible landing spot. There’s a chance he starts with the Cavs (at either guard spot) or comes off the bench as the sixth man, but it seems now that virtually anywhere he moves he’ll have more value, so makes for a good stash. Why the Kings ever signed Hill in the first place is a mystery, but hey, there’s a reason they’ve sucked for so long now, right?
