Persona 5 starts out similarly to Persona 4, with a young student being forced to move and attend high school in a very different setting from where they grew up. This time our lead relocates from the countryside to Tokyo due to being branded a minor criminal. Soon enough they gain the ability to use Personas and the code name “Joker,” and then it’s off to balance dungeon diving and having a social life.

Bulletstorm walks an unusual path with its story. On the one hand it’s about revenge and righting a wrong that has been done to you. On the other, the characters spend about 90 per cent of their time busting each other’s balls. It almost feels like they had the outline of a serious story and then decided just to record the most testosterone-filled dialogue they could. It’s an odd mix.

While Above the Law’s story is markedly better than the start of this season, it sings the best when Clementine is in the picture. We just hope that the bubbling conflict here doesn’t play into the tropes we’ve seen in all forms of Walking Dead media (AKA “people are horrible and violent forever and ever and ever”).

Simple button presses accomplish this, and the only real bit of finesse is ascending/descending your scale of scope, which is down with the L2/R2 buttons and using the thumbsticks to choose a target. This lack of necessary precision is a good thing, since the actual movement and collision detection are a bit wonky.

If you’re comparing the actual on-ice play to EA’s version, the controls may be the same, but the response time is strangely sloppy and slow. Shooting feels off and collision detection is inconsistent at best. Passing is what you’d expect, except your players are hardly ever in the right spot for a breakout or a one-timer.

Despite being developed with platforms like the PS4 and PC in mind, Tales of Berseria was also still made for the PS3, so not everything’s looking very next-gen yet. On the plus side, the series returns to 60 FPS gameplay, which works very well with the extravagant battle system.

You’ll have access to four different weapon types (small/large swords, spears and bracers), each with their own strengths and weaknesses. As with Pods it’s easy to switch back and forth to juggle attacks for massive combo damage. The combat reminded us of games like Bayonetta and Devil May Cry, and that kind of variety is a Godsend for an action RPG.
