2012-13 Golden State Warriors Preview

Despite the threat of a lawsuit from area residents, a $5.4-million Santa Cruz facility for the Golden State Wariors’ D-League team has been green lighted. Santa Cruz City Council unanimously approved the building permits for the facility, however, funding (which includes a $4 million loan from the city) for the venue still needs to be voted on. That vote might not be as much of a slam dunk considering that Beach Hill residents want to block the arena and have threatened a lawsuit to do so. Traffic, noise and environmental impacts are the main issues the residents have with this. Apparently, a full environmental review was not done, and that could be enough to force an injunction on construction. Some reports suggest construction had already begun, but that seems a bit bizarre considering the building permits just came through.

Bullpen Woes Killing Astros

An elbow injury that cost him nearly a month has kept Lopez’s workload below what he usually logs, but what’s really impressed us this year is the massively improved control. Toss in the fact that he’s already matched his career high in wins and is on pace for his third straight season with a better ERA, and perhaps we are finally looking at the emergence of Lopez as a closer – something Fantasy experts have long prognosticated.

Will the Philadelphia Flyers Have Enough on D?

Coburn will now face the opponents’ top lines each night while at the same time be expected to step up offensively with Carle in Tampa Bay. Coburn had nine goals and 36 points in his first full season as a Flyer in 2007-08, but he hasn’t really come close to that since – especially in the last three seasons. Philly didn’t need Coburn to do much on the offensive end when Pronger and Carle were on the team, but it needs him now.
