In fact, after catching in the low minors, Schwarber was playing left field exclusively by the time he got to High-A Daytona. Stinnett has improved since being taken in the late rounds by the Pirates last year, as the 6’4” righty has a power arm but may be more suited to be a reliever at this point because of mechanical concerns. Sands, on the other hand, is much more consistent at repeating his delivery and can reach the mid-90s with his fastball. He also features a very good 12-to-6 curve.

A big, versatile winger at 6’2″ and 227 pounds, Ritchie has the size, skill and strength that makes him ideally suited as a legitimate NHL power forward. In 61 regular season games with the Petes, Ritchie had 39 goals, 74 points, 136 penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating, adding five goals and 10 points in 11 postseason games.

2014 NHL Draft Grades: Metropolitan Division, Part II

A tall, lanky back-stopper at 6’3″ and 176 pounds, Halverson has technical issues to work on in his game, but boasts good upside. In 19 games with the Greyhounds, the Traverse City, Michigan native put together a 12-6-1 record, a 2.96 goals against average, a .904 save percentage and two shutouts.

Anderson, committed to Southern Miss, is more of a defensive catcher at the moment, but could develop his power if he adds some bulk to his 6’3”, 180-pound frame. Twine is a rather intriguing prospect. He was considered one of the best Texas high school running quarterbacks, once rushing for 534 yards in a single game. Also a track star, Twine has premier speed and athleticism, and now needs to find a way to translate that into stardom on the baseball diamond.

This year, Carolina added to its defensive depth and acquired a top notch young back-stopper, but didn’t do much to address the forward corps as just one of the three selected forwards was a winger.

2014 NBA Draft Grades: Northwest Division

Minnesota finished up draft night by snagging a much needed wing player with a lot of potential and enough polish to contribute right away in Robinson III. He looks the part of an NBA player, solid frame and smooth shot, but for some reason or another he failed to consistently grab the spotlight at Michigan and show the NBA scouts he was worthy of anything more than a second round pick. As with fellow draftee LaVine, Saunders will mold Robinson III into a solid player that will be around for many seasons to come.
