Product Review: Skullcandy SLYR for Xbox One

The SLYR for Xbox One actually more closely follows the colour scheme of the original Xbox, featuring the bright green on both the ear cups and deployable microphone (it tucks nearly out of sight when not in use). It’s not our favourite colour, and we would’ve preferred the same black on the outside throughout the design, but it’s not worth getting hung up on, either. Also, the headset, while plastic, still feels durable and doesn’t exude a cheap vibe.

Review: NBA Game Time App (PS4)

A year ago, we checked out the NBA Game Time App with Broadband League Pass on the Xbox 360 and found it to be an uneven experience — due mostly to poor stability in the actual stream. This time we’re jumping to next-gen and checking out the other console by reviewing the app for the PlayStation 4. The cost remains unchanged from the premium pass (US$199 for all 30 teams), while the choice package (in which you select any five teams) has gone from US$140 to US$149.

Product Review: A38 Active Noise Cancelling Wireless Headset

Thanks to the size of the ear cups, the A38s also offer a nice variety of depth, allowing sounds to resonate at distance or come across as though they’re right next to you. It’s great when watching films or playing certain games, helping to deliver the intended experience. Music sounds very good as well and doesn’t fall victim to the tendency to go over the top with the bass. It’s all part of a consistently clean, crisp sound that feels appropriate for the premium price.

Product Review: HyperX Cloud White Headphones

Ease of use and comfort are certainly important components of any headset, but they wouldn’t mean much if the audio quality didn’t deliver. Thankfully, the HyperX Cloud White has no such shortcomings with two 53mm drivers kicking out clear music and immersive gaming effects. We played a variety of genres, and the HyperX just kept outputting high-quality sound, whether it was booming explosions or the subtle creak of floorboards in the distance.
