Still, he remains a key source of power for a Bronx Bomber squad that may actually need more pop this season. Last year, Cano set a career high in runs while enjoying his best power season yet. Yes, the Yanks exercised their $15 million option on him for 2013, but this is his walk season, so that’s a story that will need to be closely monitored. The slam dunk first keystone corner dude off the board, Cano is likely going in the middle of the first round after setting a career high in wRC+. Sure, he stunk it up in the playoffs, but over the course of an entire season, no one is in Cano’s class at second base.

Votto’s midseason knee injury wound up costing the Canadian slugger over 50 games, although his extra-base pop was pretty damn impressive regardless. Not surprisingly, his stolen base total dipped, but you could argue that he was on track for a career year before going down. It was tough to drop Byfuglien given he had 53 points in just 66 games but Karlsson’s rise was too hard to ignore and Weber should be allowed to play “full out” in a 48-game schedule. Byfuglien’s team has a tougher travel schedule than most and that may play a factor. However, the guy can shoot the puck and be a force on both sides of the ice. He also plays a punishing brand of hockey like our No. 1 defenceman. That alone allows Byfugline to maintain at least a top three spot in our rankings.
