As if being a non-roster invitee wasn’t bad enough for Kotchman, a lacerated finger kept him out for the first few days of Spring Training action, but oh man, what a nice first impression he made when he slugged a grand salami in his first at-bat with the Fish.

Signed out of Venezuela in 2007, Perez looked much better at Triple-A last season. He’s done a very good job of limiting home runs (just 10 in 21 starts and one relief appearance in the minors last season), but control remains his bugaboo (56 walks in 127 IP, or nearly four per nine innings). He enjoyed a breakout season back in 2009 at Class-A (reaching Double-A at the age of 18) and has been young for his leagues ever since. Now it’s time for Perez to make the big leap, so we’ll see how he reacts in early May when he’s ready to go.

As noted, the playoffs have been given their own mode as well with different presentation, jacked up crowds and situation-specific commentary. Even though it plays just like any other mode it’s still a fun addition for those that don’t care to play through a 162-game season.

This week’s episode of RotoRob’s Fantasy Baseball Weekly Podcast, heard every Thursday at 9 p.m. EST on Blogtalkradio, was short and sweet. We had to cut it right at the half-hour mark so Tim could rush off for another radio spot, but, damn if we didn’t fill those 30 minutes with plenty of Fantasy baseball goodness.

He had his first 200-hit season, his fifth 40-double campaign and third year with a BA of at least .330. Cabrera remains on the good side of 30 yet is already closing in on 1,000 runs, 2,000 hits, 350 homers and 1,200 RBI. Oh, and he’s nearly a .320 hitter for his career. Is it too soon to decree him one of the greatest to ever play the game? The reigning AL MVP is going off the board in the top two picks in this year’s drafts — especially now that he has third base eligibility. Let’s nitpick: Cabrera’s walk rate dropped to its lowest level since 2008. What a freaking stiff! Did we mention he set a new career high with 139 RBI? Like we said… a total dud here, folks. Nothing to see.
