As with other Rockstar titles, the voice acting throughout LA Noire is excellent and when combined with all the subtle facial expressions and mannerisms it really brings things to an entirely new level. Music ripped from the era is good, as is most of the original score, but some of the background tunes recycled during crime scene investigations can become a bit grating. Overall, however, it’s another tour de force from the industry’s resident standard bearer on audio excellence.

Each game in the trilogy was built on the same engine, so the basic controls work the same. Two face buttons control your weapons (primary and secondary, which could mean a dagger depending on which game you’re playing), another face button causes the Prince to jump or roll. Two trigger buttons provide alternate camera angles — useful when trying to survey all of your possible platforming options. The other two trigger buttons control the Time Rewind feature, which is essentially a get-out-of-jail free card should you miss a jump or time a trap wrong, and the block button.

Outside of the actual players, avid tennis fans will recognize many of the venues for the tournaments, from accurately recreated Grand Slam courts to smaller tournament courts from the ATP/WTA tour. Each of these venues is brilliantly replicated in beautiful high-resolution graphics, though the fans in the stands still follow the canned animation found in just about every sports game.
