Nola went yard on Wednesday, part of a second straight three-hit game, raising his BA to .356. He currently only qualifies at first base in most leagues, but could very well earn qualification at second base, and possibly catcher and third base as well — something that would really hike his value. Nola, a 29-year-old rookie, has looked very productive in his first taste of the bigs and while it’s been a long road for this 2012 fifth round pick to get the majors, he’s making the most of his opportunity. Nola could stick as a super sub and be quite useful if given enough PT.

This young righty is starting to come into his own, hurling seven shutout innings in his most recent start. The Pirates’ ninth rounder in 2013, Kuhl is a sinkerball that knows how to generate plenty of groundballs — although his extreme groundball tendencies have neutralized the further he’s gotten along in the system. The good news is his strikeout rate has soared this year to the point he’s an asset, and he’s managed to shave six-tenths of a run off his ERA since late-July, making him a must-own NL-only league pitcher now.

The Wire Troll: Matt Andriese Returns to Rays Rotation

Yes, another Rays’ starter looms on the horizon in the form of former Padre Smith. He underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2015, and is still on the comeback trail, but his recent results suggest he’s ready for another crack at the Show. Smith hurled 5 2/3 shutout innings on Friday to earn the win at Triple-A, and he’s been lights out in three starts at Durham. He’s proven he can win in the minors again; now let’s see what he can do in the majors.

The Wire Troll: Korean Invasion

The Korean theme continues with Kim, who impressed many a week and a half ago with his four-hit showing against Houston. That’s earned him some extra PT of late, and with hits in three straight games, he’s now batting a robust .319 — a figure which we can no longer of good conscience ignore. This “rookie” (we still don’t follow that logic for international players that have played professionally elsewhere) simply knows how to hit. And last we checked, that has some value.

The Wire Troll: Luis Valbuena Responding to the Pressure

Since coming off the DL after undergoing 2015 Tommy John surgery, McCarthy has had his strikeout pitch working, fanning 14 in 10 IP while going 2-0 with a sparkling 2.70 ERA. Watch for the Dodgers to slowly stretch him out in the second half, which will make him even more valuable. With good veteran pitching hard to come by, McCarthy won’t last long, so pounce while you can.

Beltre is getting long in the tooth, but remains one of the safest options at third base. He got off to a bit of a slow start in 2015 before snapping a mini skid. Many believe that Beltre will really regress this year, and certainly the power drop off last year was worrisome, but we’ll believe it when we see it. We’re definitely expecting his BA to dip after last year’s .345 BABIP, but otherwise he’ll be a very productive option once again.
