The Wire Troll: Anthony Beauvillier Helping Keep the Isles in the Hunt

Scandella hasn’t done much offensively lately (notwithstanding an assist on Thursday — the 75th of his eight-year career), but he plays a ton of minutes and given Bogosian’s season-ending injury, he’s guaranteed PT the rest of the way. Scandella has been disciplined lately, going without a penalty so far in January, but the veteran is still seeking his first power play goal of the season. He does the little things well, putting up a team-high three hits on Thursday, and has been seeing steady PP and PK time. Consider Scandella a nice deep league add.

The Wire Troll: T.J. McConnell Pointing Up in Philly

Hill has been maddening to own lately. He scored 20 or more points in two of the previous four games, then took a DNP-CD on Friday. Really?!? However, the Kings are rumoured to be interested in peddling Hill, with Cleveland mentioned as a possible landing spot. There’s a chance he starts with the Cavs (at either guard spot) or comes off the bench as the sixth man, but it seems now that virtually anywhere he moves he’ll have more value, so makes for a good stash. Why the Kings ever signed Hill in the first place is a mystery, but hey, there’s a reason they’ve sucked for so long now, right?

The Wire Troll: Gerald Green Heating Up in Houston

Powell is playing big minutes off the bench in the last couple of games, and has been producing, scoring at least a dozen points in four of the last five games. His touches are up lately and his shooting accuracy has gotten better every season. Powell seems to be establishing himself as a key component in the Dallas rebuilding program — especially given the lack of effective options around him. Jump on this train now, especially in dynasty formats.

The Wire Troll: Shea Theodore Proving Valuable in Vegas

Vanek has been going hog wild lately, enjoying a four-point game last week, an assist last Saturday, and then a five-point explosion on Thursday. It’s the second time in his career he’s put up a five-point game and just the fourth time in the last 20 years a Canuck player has achieved this. Vanek is averaging nearly a point per game this month, and despite seeing less ice time this season, he looks headed for a nice bounce back effort. Of course, having said that, his minutes are rising as the season progresses, so he could be in line for an even bigger second half. Grab the veteran now.

The Wire Troll: Denzel Valentine Lighting it up From Downtown

Another source of treys — although perhaps not with Valentine’s upside — is wily old veteran Korver. Korver bounced back from an ugly shooting night Tuesday to can 4-of-6 three pointers on Thursday en route to 15 points, two boards, two assists and a steal in 25 minutes. His touches are a bit down lately, but overall have risen this month. Korver has more or less been just a bench player since coming to Cleveland, but his overall numbers this season are down only a smidge over what he did last season.

The Wire Troll: Alex Stalock Heating up for Wild

After ending November in a slump, Fiala has absolutely been on fire this month, getting points in all seven games (six goals, three assists). His +6 rating in December has him back to even. Through just 31 games, Fiala has already tripled his assist total from all of last season. In fact, since playing his first NHL game in 2014-15, he had accumulated five helpers in 60 games. In basically half the number of games this season, he has 15 helpers. Can you say breakout?
