He enjoyed a career season as a reserve in 2022, but last year struggled with injuries and ineffectiveness. Now, Guillorme has another chance to offer some value thanks to Albies’ toe woe, and so far, he’s delivering. Guillorme played the hero on Tuesday, spanking a two-run double to give the Braves the cushion they would need to close out the Astros. Before taking an 0-fer on Wednesday, he had hits in back to back games and if he can reverse a three-year trend of a declining walk rate, he could prove to be a useful short-term NL-only option but is unlikely to offer much in the way of power or speed.

As mentioned above, Hughes’ season is done, and Bowers has taken his place on the top line, making him an intriguing late-season flier. A 2017 first round pick, Bowers has yet to post a point through five games this season, but he’s starting to see more PT and generate shots, so the production should come. He did flash some offensive potential in the AHL this season with nine goals in 40 games.

Using the wire can provide value in multiple ways. Sometimes, it offers a temporary fix to an injury issue or it’s simply a case of jumping on a player delivering short-term value. But when you pick up a player and he sticks on your team for the entire season (or even the lion’s share) and contributes throughout, that is the true definition of waiver wire gold.

We haven’t seen the offense flowing from Duran in recent games, but he’s proven he can rack up plenty of counting cat numbers in a part-time role (55 runs in just 439 plate appearances last season), so he’s worth grabbing to see what he can accumulate playing almost every day.
