The Wire Troll: Charlie Lindgren Claims the Goalie Gig in Montreal

Although Nyquist was shut out Friday, you get the sense the slow starter is on the cusp of a breakout. He ripped six shots on goal (two on breakaways) and played over 20 minutes — his most ice time since October 10. Nyquist is still looking to rediscover the scoring touch that saw him score 28 goals in just 57 games in 2013-14, but he was even +/- on a bad team last season and managed to rip 165 shots (alhtough a poor shooting percentage cost him). That has normalized so far this season, so if he keeps shooting like Friday, the puck will start going in. Buy low while you can, but just don’t expect the centre to help your faceoff numbers. He took until Wednesday to get his first faceoff win of the season (having taken just four draws all season).

The Wire Troll: Aron Baynes Burying Buckets in Beantown

It was impressive. Rozier didn’t shoot well, yet still went off for 15 points with seven rebounds, four assists, two treys and two steals. Coming off a 14-point effort in the previous game, you can see that his scoring is starting to come around, making him a nice target. Always a bench player, Rozier could get a chance to start if Irving is sidelined, but even if he remains in the second unit, he’s sinking more buckets this season.

NFL Today: Jimmy Garoppolo Finally Dealt

How about his career game Sunday with four touchdown passes and 311 yards passing? A couple of long TD passes helped really jack up his YPA. Since getting picked twice by Seattle in Week Five, Goff has looked better and better each game. The 2016 first overall pick has now topped 2,000 yards passing — halfway through his second season. He looked lost last year, but now, his arrival as a legitimate quarterback has coincided with the Rams’ coming of age. No wonder so many NFL teams are beating the bushes for a franchise QB. This is Exhibit A on the rewards of finding one.

The Wire Troll: Nate Schmidt Getting Tons of PT for Golden Knights

Beagle is deep league fodder only, but with a goal, two assists and a +2 rating over the last four games, the veteran is starting to make noise. Where he can really help you, though, is in leagues that track faceoff wins. Beagle is currently tied for second in the NHL with a 62.1 per cent success rate on draws, racking up 105 wins to date. He’s mostly known for his defensive play, but while he’s contributing a bit to the attack, he’s worth a look.

The Wire Troll: Jakob Poeltl Takes Advantage of Injuries in Toronto

A dude that always seems to be in the middle of some kind of scuffle, Oubre broke out with 19 points, eight boards, four treys, two blocks and two steals on Friday. That’s the kind of effort that gets you noticed in Fantasy circles. He has generally been durable and seems to have really developed his outside game this season (averaging two three-pointers), so it’s time to scoop him off the wire.

The Wire Troll: Jaroslav Halak Hoarding Islander Crease

With multi-point efforts in three of his last four games, Pominville is off to a great start in his return to Buffalo, ranking 11th in scoring in the NHL. He enjoyed a nice bounce-back effort last year with 34 assists, but the way things are going early on, he’s on pace to threaten his career-best of 53 helpers set way back in 2007-08. Now a true leader on the young Sabres, he’s getting more minutes, so jump on him while you can as he won’t last long on the wire.
