At around seven hours, depending on your power, the campaign is enjoyable. The Scorn provide a much-needed change of pace in combat, utilizing some new tactics and abilities — it’s not a dramatic departure, but after years of killing the same enemies it’s legitimately different and not a simple re-skin.

Set shortly after the last game’s conclusion, Shadow opens as Lara and Jonah arrive in Cozumel on the lookout for Dr. Dominguez, who was referenced in some of her father’s notes. Upon locating him they learn of his connection with Trinity, prompting Lara to investigate nearby tombs in hopes of thwarting their efforts.

Although it won’t go down among the best RPG stories, Dragon Quest XI does more than enough with its plot to keep you moving forward, and the constant metering out of rewards and loot encourages no shortage of secondary exploration and completing of side missions. There’s tons of content here, a good bit of which opens up after you finish the main game.

To be clear, Shenmue I & II are absent most modern conveniences, often making for a very deliberate experience where you’ll need to have multiple conversations to track down a location only to find it closed or the person you’re supposed to meet gone. It may feel quaint initially, but when the time spent milling about waiting for in-game hours to pass starts to pile up it can become rather taxing.

Dead Cells’ combat and exploration are exhilarating, and the rewards are metered out nicely. Basically, as you kill enemies some will drop cells. These are then used at the conclusion of levels to unlock new abilities, equipment and more. If you’re killed before reaching the end of a stage, however, you lose them all.

Probably the single biggest gameplay difference between this and the WWE 2k games is that Fire Pro encourages you to create exciting matches by emphasizing grading, whereas the WWE games are more akin to a fighting game. Here you might kick out late in a count or allow the A.I. to mount a comeback in the interest of crowd favour.

Of course, the heart of a TellTale game is its story, and what this season presents so far is the story of a generation growing up in the zombie apocalypse. Clem has taken the role of mentor over young AJ, and her journey leads her to a fortified school filled with students, mostly around the same age.
