Fantasy Notes: Red Flag Rich

April 20, 2007 | By RotoRob | comment on this post
  • The announcement by the A’s that Rich Harden’s shoulder needs some rest and he’ll skip his start this weekend must have rang plenty of warning bells for his owners. The plan is to give him a couple of extra days and let him start Tuesday. Harden played catch before Friday’s game and said he was fine. He is scheduled to throw a side session tomorrow and that will determine his status for Tuesday’s start against Baltimore. Either Brad Halsey or long reliever Lenny DiNardo will take his place should Harden be unable to take the mound next week. It’s barely late-April and the dude is already having shoulder woes. Is it just me or do the A’s need to think about converting Harden into a reliever? I’m not sure he can handle the grind of being a starter.
  • Giants reliever Jack Taschner has been much harder to hit in the early going, but looks like he’s having control problems. After giving up 31 hits in 19 1/3 innings last year, the southpaw has surrendered only one hit in 3 2/3 so far this season. However, he’s already walked three, including a bases-loaded walk on Wednesday that allowed the Cards to take the lead. Last season, Taschner issued just seven walks. Despite the early control problems, Taschner has been perhaps the Giants’ most reliable reliever so far this season, so he could enter into the save discussion at some point.
