Jackson has a strong arm and limited third base experience, so down the road the 6’2”, 215-pounder could end up in the outfield. His quick bat speed and slight uppercut swing means 30-plus home run potential, and who isn’t excited about that?

He’s 4-2 with a 3.36 ERA, and has allowed more than three earned runs just once in his last eight starts despite the fact that he averages just over six innings per start. Eovaldi has a respectable 57 strikeouts in 67 innings.

They are consistent but not particularly polished, especially the finish in his delivery. He comes across his body to the third base side of the mound, which makes you wonder if his command could be hindered. Kolek’s stuff is potentially dominant, with a fastball that hovers around 99 mph, and his 6’6”, 250-pound frame is imposing. His curveball and slider are works in progress, but of course, we love the fastball (who doesn’t?), as it can hit as high as 102, which is unprecedented for a high-schooler.

Jackson is on his eighth team and about his 78th lease on life. He has a World Series ring to show for his travels but is about the last guy you’d expect to get excited about when he’s sitting there on the waiver wire. After all, E-Jax led the National League with 18 losses last season, but don’t sleep on the 30-year-old in 2014. Less than one per cent (0.9) own Jackson in ESPN leagues and just 15 per cent have him in CBS leagues, but he’s sizzling in May. Despite a 1-1 record, Jackson has a 1.80 ERA (four earned runs in 20 IP) with 23 strikeouts to just three walks.

Smith fell a homer shy of the cycle Friday and then just missed it by a single on Saturday as he is now getting a chance to start every day and bat third in the Friars’ lineup. You might want to peek at his numbers because they are pretty darn good. All this guy has done is hit .531 (17-for-32) in his last eight games with a homer, seven RBI, seven doubles, and three triples. Are you kidding me? Smith’s 994 OPS seems almost absurd, but not as absurd as Fantasy owners continually overlooking this guy.

The 6’3”, 195-pound Hermida made late moves up draft boards, adding 20 pounds to his frame in his senior year of high school. It’s hard to classify him as a bust because he played eight years in the Major Leagues, but his three best years were bunched together from 2007-09, and his last few years were spent trying to recapture that production before he flamed out with the Padres in 2012 — the last time he graced a major league diamond with his presence. Last year, Hermida showed good on-base skills in the Indians’ organization, but never got the call to Cleveland.
