Fantasy Notes: Moyer Still Ticking

- Jamie Moyer proved he still has something left to offer by winning five games in eight starts with an ERA just over 4.00 for the Phils. It took him 25 starts to win six games with Seattle before the 43-year-old lefty was dealt to Philadelphia. There’s a mutual option on Moyer’s contract for 2007, and it wouldn’t shock me if the Phils wanted him back. Of course, Moyer, who will be 44 next month, may opt to ply his trade elsewhere.
- While we’re on the topic of Phillies’ starters, expect Cole Hamels to be a top draft pick in 2007. Taking a look at this second half, it’s obvious this 22-year-old has arrived. After July, Hamels went 6-3 in 11 starts, and gave up just 55 hits in 69 1/3 innings with 76 Ks against only 19 walks. The Phils planned to start him in Game 1 of the NLDS had they made it, so that will tell you something about how far Hamels came in the second half. He’ll be Philly’s ace next season.
