Fantasy Notes: Gibbons Scuffling Since Return
- Jay Gibbons has been having a tough time getting going since coming off the DL on July 30. He was 4-for-4 in his first game back, but is just 7-for-37 since. To make matters worse, he’s complained that his legs feel weak and thinks it’s going to be tough for him to return to 100 per cent while he’s playing. Gibbons believes the weakness in his legs is sapping him of power. Sounds like he will not be a good fantasy play down the stretch. Steer clear unless he shows signs of snapping out of it.
- Matt Diaz had his bubble burst last night, but he wasn’t alone as Pedro Astacio completely negated a powerful Atlanta offense. Diaz took an 0-for-4 to snap his NL record-tying streak of 10 straight hits. Look for Diaz, batting .344 with power (5 HR, 24 RBI, .510 SLG) to take more time away from Ryan Langerhans down the stretch. Langerhans is suffering from the old sophomore jinx, it appears.
